SW OKC Neighbors Say Drainage Canal Threatens Homes

Residents of a southwest Oklahoma City neighborhood said a large drainage canal is threatening several homes. Shelli Easterday's family's home sits right next to the concrete drainage canal that runs through Wimberly Estates. 

Easterday showed News 9 photos that appear to show that tons of rushing water from the past few days aren't moving through the canal, but are flowing underneath it and it around it. Easterday said she fears erosion that is clearly visible now will result in her family's home falling into the canal. She said the city's done little to help. “I'm tired of hearing it. And I mean they need to come fix it before somebody gets hurt. I mean before these houses go in,” she said. 

A city spokesperson Friday told News 9 city public works is looking into it.
