A soon-to-be Choctaw High School graduate finds herself in elite company. Aimee Jones, 17, is a 2015 recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship. Out of 57,000 applicants this year, Jones is one of only a thousand winners nationwide.

In Oklahoma last year, only 47 high school graduates were awarded this scholarship, which is a full-ride to any college or university the recipient wants to go. And that includes grad school.

For Aimee, that is a possibility, because while right now she wants to be a delivery room nurse, she may want to go to medical school as well.

Jones is not only a straight A student at Choctaw High, she's also a member of Oklahoma's State Choir.

“My favorite classes are, I love History and of course Science,” she said Monday.

Her Biomedical Science Teacher Paula Sendall says to her knowledge Aimee is the Choctaw's first Gates Millennium Scholarship winner ever.

“If I could pick a classroom full of kids, they would be kids just like Aimee Jones.”
