The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened near the town of Bunch, Okla. in Adair County on Sunday.

According to a report, a state wildlife officer approached three men fishing at a pond near Bunch and asked to see their fishing licenses. The officer soon learned that one of the men had a warrant out of Arkansas for a parole violation. When the officer tried to take the man into custody the two began to scuffle.

Investigators say during the altercation the two men fell into the pond where the suspect tried to hold the officer's head under water. The officer was able to fight his way above the water, pull his weapon and fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

The officer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The chief of the Wildlife Department requested OSBI investigate the officer-involved shooting. Numerous investigative and crime scene agents were called out to the scene to interview witnesses and document the scene. The Adair County Sheriff's Office was also asked assist.

The OSBI will not release the name of the officer who killed the suspect unless he is arrested or charged with a crime.

The name of the deceased man will be released once his next of kin has been notified. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
