An armed robber's plan was foiled by a brave store clerk over the weekend. The clerk took matters into her own hands and did what police call “unexpected”.

"You don't know until you are faced with that situation," Miranda Guy said.

She was busy checking out customers on Saturday, April 18. Guy said a black man, in his early 20s, wearing all dark clothing approached the counter and asked for all of the money in the register.

"A lot of people say that joking around," Guy said.

Guy said she asked him again what he needed from the store.

"The man pulled out the weapon and that's whenever things got real."

Guy refused to hand over the money so the armed robber fired one shot into the ceiling of the store, then turned the gun on her.

"That's whenever I grabbed the barrel and then he put his finger back on the trigger," Guy said.

Guy said she decided to shove the gun away, then reached for a metal pole behind the counter and waved it toward the armed robber.

"I think it took him by surprise," Guy said.

The robber then ran from the store empty handed. Chickasha Police were called to the Gas Mart near 4th and Texas after the incident. Interim Chief Shanon McClain says confronting an armed suspect is not the best option in most cases.

"It's a good idea to cooperate, but if the person does decide they are going to fight you need to fight with all of your might and put everything you have into it," said McClain.

Guy said that's exactly how she reacted -- and would do it again.

"That's how you got be in this world...tough or it's going to eat you...dog eat dog world," said Guy.

If you have any information about the attempted robbery you are asked call Chickasha Crime Stoppers at (405) 224-TIPS.
