Oklahoma City police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting on the far eastern side of Oklahoma City.

Officers say they got call after 7 p.m. when several neighbors called 911 saying their neighbor, who was in his early 70s, was walking down the street waving a machete.

Neighbors told police he began approaching them with the weapon, when one Officer arrived, police say he told the man to put down the machete several times, but they say he refused and kept walking toward the officer. That officer then opened fire. Neighbors say he was shot at least five times.

"When somebody has a weapon and they are advancing toward you and it's an edged weapon like a machete, [officers] are trained to respond to the threat. You know if they feel like they're threatened or if their health or their life is in jeopardy, then they are allowed to defend themselves," said Oklahoma City police Capt. Paco Balderrama.

No one else was injured in the shooting. Police also say that elderly man, who was shot and killed, has been dealing with some personal issues and has had other incidents involving neighbors recently. News 9 is told he also lived alone.
