The Edmond Board of Education chose Bret Towne to be the next superintendent of the fourth largest district in the state.

Board members made the announcement Monday night following executive session.

Towne will oversee 23,500 students, 2,800 employees and 25 campuses when current Superintendent David Goin retires effective in June.

Edmond school officials said Towne has worked in education for 33 years as a teacher, assistant principal and administrator. He has spent 16 years with Edmond Public Schools, serving since 2003 as Associate Superintendent.
