OU Softball: Sooners Sweep Doubleheader From Cyclones

No. 5 Oklahoma swept Iowa State in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to improve its record to 32-5 on the season and 6-0 in Big 12 play.

No. 5 Oklahoma swept Iowa State (19-14, 0-3) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to improve its record to 32-5 on the season and 6-0 in Big 12 play. A pair of four-run innings helped OU to an 8-2 win in game one, while a 10-run fourth inning in game two gave the Sooners a 16-1 win in five innings.

Oklahoma 8, Iowa State 2

Senior Lauren Chamberlain moved into sole possession of second place on the all-time home run list with a game-tying home run to left field in the third inning. Coming on a 3-2 pitch, it was Chamberlain's 16th of the year and No. 88 in her career, moving her two home runs behind Stacey Nuveman's career mark of 90.

Senior Georgia Casey, making just her third start of the season after suffering a thumb injury in the season opener, had her best game of the season as she went 2-2 with three runs batted in and a walk.

In the circle, senior Shelby Pendley struck out eight batters while throwing a three-hitter to improve her record to 9-1 on the season. She also walked two and allowed two runs, only one of which was earned.

Pendley connected on back-to-back home runs with Chamberlain for the third time this season as she also drove a 3-2 pitch out of the stadium in the third.

Oklahoma 16, Iowa State 1 (5 Innings)

Pendley hit two more home runs in the game two win, giving her 77 in her career to move into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time home run list. She hit a two-run homer in the first and added a three-run blast in the fourth. She finished 2-2 with six RBI and tied a career high with four runs scored.

Junior Erin Miller drove in four runs with a two-run single in the second and a two-run double in the fourth inning, finishing 2-3 with a run scored.

Casey and freshmen Paige Parker and Lea Wodach also had two runs batted in each during the game.

Parker got the win in the circle to improve her record to 16-3 on the season. She struck out five and allowed two hits, one run and one walk in 4.2 innings of work.

The Sooners have now won 24 straight against Iowa State, the third-longest active win streak for OU against another team. Oklahoma has held Iowa State to two runs or fewer in 18 straight contests.
