Deputies in Pottawatomie County tried to stop a driver along I-40 Friday, but were led on a chase.

Authorities said James Kevin Colander took off heading west on I-40 and then crossed the median and headed back east and then south on Bethel Road to 119th Street. He then headed east to Shawnee Lake.

During the chase near the lake, authorities attempted to box him in, but he got away. Pottawatomie County deputies and tribal police tried to box him in a second time and he reportedly rammed a deputy.

Authorities said he headed back toward the lake, then jumped out of the car and surrendered.

He told law enforcement that he ran because he did not want to go back to jail. Authorities said he was on meth during the chase.
