No one was injured after a train and a pickup truck collided in Union City, Oklahoma, Thursday morning.

According to Union City police, at about 8:25 a.m., officers responded to the report of a collision involving a train and a pickup just west of the intersection of S.W. 44th and U.S. 81.

Officers learned that a white Chevrolet pick-up truck had crossed over the tracks just as a Union Pacific locomotive pulling a 107 car load was approaching from the north. The train impacted the truck just behind the passenger compartment, causing the vehicle to rotate westbound toward a ditch.

Neither the driver of the vehicle or the operators of the locomotive were injured. Mercy EMS evaluated the driver of the vehicle at the scene. The driver refused further care or transport.

According to authorities, the intersection is controlled by signs both westbound and eastbound. The Union Pacific Railroad and the Department of Transportation are in the process of installing full automated railroad crossing barricades at this intersection. Workers from the installation crew arrived on scene to continue the installation process just after the collision occurred.

The police department reminds all motorists to be cautious and use extra care when crossing any railroad crossings. The railroad always has the right of way.
