Twenty-five dogs rescued from an overcrowded Oklahoma City home will be available for adoption at noon on Thursday at the City's Animal Shelter.

Animal Welfare said officers found the dogs living in filthy conditions inside and outside a home on N.W. 6th Street.

Officials said the dogs' former owner surrendered them to the Animal Shelter, where they have been receiving the care they need to find new forever homes.

City code allows up to four each of dogs and cats in one home, along with litters of puppies or kittens up to six months old.

According to animal welfare officials, numerous queries from around the metro have flooded in while the dogs have been cared for at the shelter, and they are now ready to meet their new families when the Animal Shelter opens for adoptions at noon Thursday.

“Our Animal Welfare officers are here first and foremost for the safety of our pets in Oklahoma City,” said Animal Welfare Superintendent Julie Bank. “If you see a situation where pets are being abused or severely neglected, please let us know so we can evaluate the situation and take action if need be. We are there for pets and people.”

Call the Animal Welfare's dispatch line at (405)-297-2255 to report abused or neglected animals.

The dogs, like all adoptable animals at the Animal Shelter, have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered and treated for worms. The Shelter, S.E. 29 and S. Bryant Avenue, is open for adoptions from noon to 5:45 p.m. every day except holidays. Dog and cat adoptions are $60, and government-issued photo identification is necessary to complete an adoption.
