Cleveland County Sheriff's deputies arrested a burglary suspect who reportedly told deputies that his “spirit grandfather” helped him break into an Oklahoma City home.

According to the Sheriff's office, at 9:21 a.m. on Friday, March 27, deputies responded to the report of a burglary at a home in the 16000 block of A Street. The caller stated that the crime had just occurred.

As deputies were responding to the home, the homeowner told dispatchers that the suspect vehicle, a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was seen at a convenience store at 15000 S. Anderson Road.

A deputy arrived at the store, saw the vehicle and took the driver, identified as 36-year-old Todd Oliver Ameen of Midwest City, into investigative custody.

Another deputy went to the home and spoke with the homeowner. The homeowner said he received a call from his adult son, who was at the house and told him that someone had broken in the home.

When the owner returned to the house, a neighbor told the owner about the sport utility vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The neighbor also saw the vehicle leave at a high rate of speed, according to the Sheriff's office.

The owner checked the house and didn't report anything missing.

When deputies questioned Ameen, he admitted being at the home. He told deputies he went to the home with his grandfather who was with him in spirit. He said his “spirit grandfather” assisted him in the home break-in.

Ameen told deputies when he saw someone asleep in the house, so he left the home.

Deputies arrested Ameen and booked him in the Cleveland County Detention Center. Ameen was charged Monday in Cleveland County District Court with first-degree burglary.

Ameen remained in custody Tuesday. His bond was set at $35,000.
