A Moore family of six took shelter seconds before Wednesday's tornado ripped through their neighborhood. And they said it was thanks to News 9's coverage that they're alive.

Moore at first never appeared to be on the radar for Wednesday night's storm.

In the Underwood house that night, News 9's live coverage played in the background.

“It shifted and came at us in minutes. From the time we saw it on TV and heard the call out for a tornado in Moore then our house was hit,” said Daniel Underwood, tornado victim.

But News 9's coverage switched from background noise to getting Daniel and Nicole's full attention when they heard a street not too far from their home.

“I heard them say right there 12th Street in Moore. And I'm like that's right here that's where we live. Get in the hallway!” Daniel's wife, Nicole Underwood said.

“We knew it was going to get close. And when it actually hit the house and we heard the grinding and the tearing of the house that's when we actually opened the closet and put them in,” said Daniel.

Alexander, Analise, and William hid from the storm for several minutes in this hallway closet.

Before they lost power this was the last thing that played on the Underwood's TV: “Tornado on the ground. People this is live from Bob Mills SkyNews 9. Tornado on the ground. That is rotating David. Tornado on the ground.”

Parts of the Underwood's roof are missing and backyard toys are gone, but those items Daniel said are replaceable. His family is not.

“If Jim Gardner wasn't showing what he was showing I don't think we'd all be here,” said Daniel Underwood.
