Oklahoma City police are sending out a warning against scammers selling bogus magazine subscriptions in the metro area.

According to police, this type of scam has happened at least three different times over the past few weeks. The cases police are aware of all occurred at businesses in northwest Oklahoma City, around the Memorial and Penn. area.

In each case, the suspects approached the victims saying that they were college students selling magazine subscriptions. They were able to convince the victims to give them hundreds of dollars in cash. The suspects told them that they could either have the magazines sent to their house or sent directly to the troops overseas instead.

According to police, the victims were told that they were working in connection with Barnes and Noble stores, and if they'd take their receipt by any Barnes and Noble location, they would receive a refund (minus shipping and handling.) When the victims attempted to do so, they were told that Barnes and Noble had no agreement with these people to refund money or provide magazines.

Police said the suspects provided the victims with semi-legitimate looking receipts from Greenleaf Distribution/Fit for Life. Every receipt provided to date had the exact same receipt number on it.

This is a scam, and police want to warn the public to not fall victim. If you believe these same people victimized you, call police to make a report.
