An explosion in Manhattan's East Village has caused multiple injuries, fire officials said Thursday.
The building collapse was reported about 3:20 p.m., but it is unclear what the cause may be or if there are any fatalities.
The collapse occurred in a residential and commercial building on Second Avenue and fire could be seen tearing through at least two buildings at the location.
The fire quickly escalated to five alarms, according to the FDNY.
Firefighters and emergency responders are at the scene of the damage, CBS New York reported. Stores and buildings in the vicinity have been evacuated.
According to the New York Buildings Department, there was a stop-work order on the building.
