4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Central Oklahoma

Folks in the Guthrie area got a pretty good jolt Sunday night, as a 4.0 magnitude earthquake rumbled just south of town.

Folks in the Guthrie area got a pretty good jolt Sunday night, as a 4.0 magnitude earthquake rumbled just south of town.

The quake struck at approximately 10:24 p.m., three miles south southwest of Guthrie, or about 25 miles north of the OKC metro, at a depth of six miles.

Several viewers from around OKC and the surrounding communities reported feeling the earthquake. This is the eleventh earthquake to rattle the state on Sunday alone, with this latest temblor being the largest.

So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely with quakes at magnitudes of 4.0 and higher.
