Conditions are improving statewide, thanks to sunshine and warmer temperatures, as highways range from wet to slick and hazardous.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, crews have been treating this morning and will continue throughout the day until all highways are clear of snow and ice. As snow and ice melts, drivers should continue to be aware of wet areas on roadways, which may still be very slick.

Highways in the Oklahoma City metro area have wet driving lanes with a few slick spots, however many ramps and shoulders are still being cleared and are slick.

In southern and southeastern Oklahoma, many highways, including I-35 remain slick and hazardous, but conditions are expected to improve. Highways remain icy and snow packed in Coal and Johnston counties. One lane of US-69/US-75 is open in each direction, but other highways in southeastern Oklahoma continue to be slick and hazardous.

In eastern Oklahoma, roadways range from snow packed to slick in spots. One lane of I-40 is open in each direction east of Oklahoma City.

In northeastern Oklahoma, including the Tulsa metro area, highways are mostly clear, but remain wet. Crews are treating slick spots in southern Creek and Tulsa counties.

In western Oklahoma, crews continue to treat slick and snow packed highways, but expect conditions to improve rapidly today. In the Panhandle, crews report that US-287, US-64 and SH-95 are mostly clear, with some slick spots. Other highways remain snow packed as crews continue clearing throughout the day.

Drivers should plan plenty of extra travel time today and increase following distance in between vehicles to allow extra room for braking. Drivers should remain alert to plowing and salt and sand operations and stay at least 200 feet behind these trucks.

If drivers must travel out of state, they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
