ODOT: Slick, Hazardous Roads Reported In Northern Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

Slick and hazardous driving conditions are reported in northern Oklahoma as a winter storm moves into the state, according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

ODOT officials said conditions are expected to rapidly change throughout the day as temperatures drop.

In Creek, Washington, Rogers and Tulsa counties, crews report slick conditions are quickly developing and and urge drivers to use caution on bridges and overpasses. In the panhandle and in north-central Oklahoma, snow and sleet is being reported and plowing operations are also underway.

Crews in western, eastern and central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metro area, are seeing a mixture of rain and sleet and crews are treating slick areas as needed at this time.

Drivers should stay alert to changing weather conditions throughout the afternoon and use caution if travel is necessary. Plan for extra travel and increase the following distance between vehicles to allow extra room for braking. Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment on the highway.

If drivers must travel out of state, they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
