One woman is dead and another was injured after a fire broke out at a home in southwest Oklahoma City, Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1100 block of SW 50th St., between S. Douglas Ave. and S. McKinley Ave., just after 11:30 a.m.

Authorities tell News 9 the injured woman was trying to pull the other woman out of the home after the fire broke out. Neither woman has been identified at this time.

Neighbors like Joseph Lang made every attempt to rescue the elderly woman from the fire.

“[I tried to] get in there and take care of them… that's all I could think at the time,” said Lang.

Oklahoma CityBattalionn Chief Al Cothran told News 9 the flames had already taken over the home when they arrived.

“It took us about 15 minutes to really get the fire knocked down,” said Cothran. “It's very uncommon to have a fire of that magnitude at this time of day when you have people at home.”

Lang and other neighbors are still in disbelief.

“It is something that shouldn't have happened and hopefully God is watching over her.”

Cothran said that the cause of the fire has not been determined and is still under investigation.

The injured woman was transported from the scene via ambulance for burn injuries. Her condition is not known.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control quickly. A damage estimate is not known at this time.
