A phone call from jail to mom led authorities to an inmate's homemade explosive device in Oklahoma City.

Investigators said Lorn McBride was arrested after texting his cousin, saying he would hurt her using explosive devices he had already made. Police found him hiding in the closet when arresting him for that threat.

Authorities monitored his calls from jail and said McBride told his mother to hide his phones and to dispose of certain items he had made that were covered in tape. During one of the calls, his mother reportedly referred to those items as “bombs.”

On Feb. 27 authorities received consent from his mother to search the home, where they found a “viable explosive.”

A probable cause affidavit stated McBride was previously convicted in Oklahoma County of Concealing Stolen Property, False Declaration to Pawn a Broker, Burglary II, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Reckless Driving, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Malicious Injury to Property.

Manufacturing Explosive Device, Making A Bomb Threat and Felon in Possession of Explosive Device will be added to McBride, court documents showed.

McBride is still in the Oklahoma County Jail.
