OKC Drivers Battle Winter Weather Conditions

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Metro highways saw accident after accident on the snowy Oklahoma roads Saturday.

With the dicey winter weather, cars proved no match for the wet and icy roads.

Along Broadway Extension and Hefner, one car flipped over, and a semi rolled over at I-35 & Covell.

Near I-35 and Britton, one woman's car had to be pulled out of a ditch.

It was much clearer along Oklahoma City streets largely thanks to the multiple crews working.

“Snow was a little bit heavier than earlier this week it was a lot easier to deal with because it was mainly just snow and it's always easier to deal with snow instead of ice," said Marc Holland, field supervisor for Oklahoma City roads.

“Depending on what the weather does, we're hoping it gets above freezing tomorrow and clears all this up for us.”

All 30 of the city's trucks were out. Each one dumped tons of salt down on the slick streets.

As salt trucks worked the city's snow routes, ODOT crews helped clear the highways.

But the snowy weather was too much for a multi-car accident along I-44 and Western Avenue.

Car after car slammed into each other, injuring one person.

"This blue car tried to dodge this Mercedes, but there was no dodging it because the car was just spinning out of control so it smacked it in the back," said Ronzale Banks, visiting from Kansas.

"Then all the cars are sliding over and by the grace of God, we made it without a scratch on us."

For next couple days, Oklahoma City crews will be on a 24-hour schedule helping to keep the roads clear.
