NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Tuesday's cold weather provided a perfect opportunity for thieves. Norman police had to chase down a suspect after he allegedly stole a car, left warming up in Roy Bendure's driveway.

“I had come in just momentarily to get my coat and kiss my wife goodbye and go to work when I looked out the window and saw my truck driving away,” said Bendure. “I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe that was my truck driving down the street.”

Bendure called 911 and police spotted the alleged thief, who has now been identified at Casey Simpson, a short time later. Simpson led police on a chase before crashing the truck through the fence of a house a couple miles away.

“Quick action on their part got my truck back,” said Bendure.

Roy's truck only seems to have a few scratches and damage to his wheels. While's he's getting it repaired, there's one more piece of equipment he plans to install.

“The next thing I'm going to do is invest in those remote starters. I'm not going to leave it in my driveway idling anymore.”

Although it isn't usually this dramatic of an ending, police say this happens a lot when it gets cold. And that's why police say, no matter how miserable and inconvenient it may be, to stay with your car while it's warming up.
