Authorities arrested an Oklahoma City man for allegedly stealing items from the fence at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.
Witnesses told police two white males dressed in all black, both on bicycles were seen taking items off the memorial fence.
The Oklahoma City Police Department said an officer saw Carson Wittwer, 24, riding his bike near the memorial just before 9 a.m. on a very cold Sunday morning. And as the officer contacted Wittwer, he said he could smell alcohol coming from Wittwer's breath.
The officer said he told Wittwer he would be arrested for being drunk in public, and Wittwer resisted arrest.
After another officer arrived to help, Wittwer was taken into custody. Officers said they found a large brown ceramic cross and a black and white handkerchief in his backpack, allegedly taken from the fence outside of the memorial.
Wittwer faces Larceny, Public Drunk, and Resisting Arrest charges.
