BRADENTON, Florida -

Kyle Greig scored in the 50th minute as OKC Energy FC defeated Toronto FC, 1-0, Wednesday evening at the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic. Greig's goal came against the majority of Toronto's first team, including U.S. Men's National Team members Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley.

Energy FC starting goalkeeper Evan Newton, who arrived in Bradenton on Wednesday afternoon, played brilliantly to keep OKC in the game.

Greig had a scoring chance in the ninth minute on a pass from Gareth Evans that was called offside. Toronto, who controlled possession much of the first half, had back-to-back corner kicks in the 11th minute but was unable to capitalized. Energy made a charge in the 16th minute and Greig sent a shot wide in the 17th minute before Danny Delgado's corner kicked was knocked out in the 24th minute.

Toronto had several scoring chances late in the first half as Robbie Findley sent a shot over the crossbar in the 32nd minute and Newton snatched up a high shot from Mark Bloom in the 39th minute. Altidore had a chance in the 44th minute but the shot went high as the teams went into the break scoreless.

Toronto started the second half with back-to-back opportunities as Sebastian Giovinco got the ball inside the six-yard box and a header from Damien Perquis just missed.

Energy FC's shining moment came in the 50th minute as Greig was there to put a rebound past Chris Konopka following a Chuy Sanchez shot.

Newton continued to come up big for OKC in the second half as he made a save on Giovinco in the 53rd minute and made several saves and challenges down the stretch to hold the Energy FC lead. Toronto made a full sail substitution in 56th minute, replacing all 10 field players. Newton faced Luke Moore in a penalty shot situation after Energy FC was called for a hand ball inside the box. Moore's shot went just wide to keep the OKC lead at 1-0.

Defender Jacob VanCompernolle played well in his first game with the team. The rookie headed out several Toronto scoring attempts, including a Moore pass in the 70th minute which resulted in back-to-back corner kicks for Toronto.

Peter Toth almost added a second goal for Energy in the 82nd minute but Konopka was able to catch the line drive shot to hold the 1-0 Energy lead.

Energy FC returns to action at the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at 1:30 p.m. CT. A link for the live stream can be found online at EnergyFC.com.
