Oklahoma City police said an 18-year-old, who attempted to rob a convenience store with an ax, was pepper-sprayed by the clerk and then stumbled into the arms of two FBI agents who happened to be at the scene.

According to police, at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a silent hold-up alarm at the Portland Express Mart, located at 3701 N. Portland. When they arrived, they found that the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Giovanni Davenport, had already been taken into custody by two FBI agents who happened to be in the area.

The FBI agents said they were parked down the street, and they actually saw Davenport get out of a car, pull an ax out of the trunk, put it down the front of his pants, and “limp” across the street to the convenience store. They said Davenport then crouched down by one of the convenience store windows.

The agents thought Davenport's behaviors were odd, so they decided to go across the street to investigate the situation.

Police said Davenport then went into the store, but was only inside for "less than 30 seconds." When he came back outside, he was "crying, throwing up and calling for his momma.”

The clerk told police that Davenport came into the store wearing a bandana over his face. He asked Davenport to take off the bandana. That's when Davenport said, “Give me whatever you have.”

The clerk said he refused and Davenport began swinging the ax. He reportedly struck the top of the counter with the ax. The clerk told Davenport that if he didn't leave, he would shoot him. The clerk said he didn't have a gun and was only trying to scare Davenport.

However, Davenport continued to swing the ax. That's when the clerk pepper-sprayed Davenport in the face.

Davenport finally gave up and ran out of the store, right into the arms of the FBI agents waiting to nab him. He was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon while wearing a mask, and robbery with a firearm. He is being held on $50,000 bond.
