The Del City Fire Department received a big boost to its firefighting capabilities. The department announced Friday morning that it recently received a donation of a foam trailer from Magellan Midstream Partners.

Estimated at a cost of $60,000, the foam trailer is designed to extinguish petroleum based fires such as diesel and gasoline, as well as alcohol based fires such as ethanol, according to the fire department.

The foam trailer comes with 900 gallons of foam concentrate and has the capabilities to apply foam from either pre-piped handlines or a 750 gallon per minute (gpm) master stream nozzle. Fire officials said the foam trailer can respond to fires at both fixed locations and to fires involving tankers.

Del City firefighters are currently undergoing training on the operations of the foam trailer and should be fully functional by mid-February. The donation of the foam trailer is scheduled to go before the Del City City-Council at their February 17 meeting for acceptance of the donation.

“Magellan is pleased to support the Del City Fire Department as we each strive to make Del City a safe place to live and work”, said Bruce Heine, Magellan's Director of Government and Media Affairs.

Magellan Midstream Partners is headquartered in Tulsa, OK and has a petroleum storage and distribution facility located in the city limits of Del City. Magellan owns and operates the nation's longest refined petroleum pipeline system with 53 terminals including the Del City facility.
