Students and faculty members are being allowed to go back into the Telstar Elementary School in Midwest City, Oklahoma, after emergency crews investigated the smell of gas Friday morning.

According to the Midwest City Fire Department, just before 8:30 a.m., crews responded to reports of gas smell in the school. Students, faculty and staff members were then evacuated to a church across the street during the investigation.

According to fire officials, crews searched the school and all of their readings came up "safe." They have determined that there wasn't a gas leak in the school.

Officials think the smell may have stemmed from fumes drifting from a nearby oil pump.

Telstar Elementary School is located in Midwest City, but is in the Oklahoma City Public Schools District.
