Passengers React After American Airlines Jet Makes Emergency Landing In Tulsa

More than 60 American Airlines passengers flew out of Tulsa Tuesday morning after their flight from Dallas to Cedar Rapids, Iowa made an unscheduled stop in Tulsa Monday evening. 

Pilots for the American Airlines regional jet noticed fumes in the cockpit and they made the decision to land at Tulsa International Airport.

News On 6 talked with passengers who spend the night in Tulsa, some were thankful for a safe landing, but others expressed their frustrations at the airline.

"I'm in Tulsa, we just had an emergency landing, I guess we were losing pressure or something. I was asleep, I didn't know," Gibril Mansaray said on YouTube. 

Hundreds of flashing lights surrounding the jet as it came to rest on a TIA runway. Gibril did not expect to end his day in Tulsa. 

"I don't know if I'll be back in Iowa today, but I'm just glad we're on the ground," said Gibril Mansaray on YouTube. 

Gibril shot YouTube video just minutes after the pilots reported fumes on American's flight 3235.

Another passenger told News On 6 he just prayed when he learned they would be making an unscheduled stop. 

"I dropped my head and started praying, hope for the best. There were a lot of older people on the plane, elderly," said Jeremy Hardaway. 

The emergency landing was a shock to Hardaway who was headed home with his two friends after vacationing in Miami. 

"We just thanked God we landed safely," said Jeremy Hardaway. 

He said passengers were frightened and upset. After landing they waited to find out what would happen next.

"The process was inadequate, it was a couple hours, nobody seemed to know what to do, they couldn't get ahold of management to AA," said Mark Gilpin. 

"Even after that we had to wait hours for our bags, we had to sit out and wait hours just to get to a hotel," said Jerome Smallwood. 

A spokesperson for American Airlines says they did their best to accommodate the passengers given the circumstances. 

The airline provided passengers with free motel rooms, meals and transportation and scheduled an extra flight Tuesday to make sure passengers reached their intended destination. 

As for the jet, American Airlines said the Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-700 was taken out of service and maintenance crews were conducting an inspection of the aircraft.
