Oklahoma Health Department Reports Ten New Flu-Related Deaths

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports ten more people have died from influenza bringing the total number of deaths this flu season to 68.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports ten more people have died from influenza bringing the total number of deaths this flu season to 68.

In numbers for the week of January 28 to February 3, the OSDH reports 10 new flu-related deaths. Three of those deaths occurred in Tulsa County, bringing the county's total for this flu season to 15. 

Six flu-related deaths have been reported in Oklahoma County since the beginning of flu season.

Last flu season, OSDH says the state recorded 71 deaths. The current flu season began on September 28, 2014.

Statewide, the OSDH reports the majority of flu-related deaths continues to be residents 65 years of age or older. Seventeen deaths were ages 54 or younger with two of those deaths children under the age of four.

The number of new flu-related hospitalizations between January 28 to February 3 was down, but officials could not say if the number of flu cases in the state had peaked or not.
