A small earthquake rumbled near the town of Cherokee, Okla., in Alfalfa County, early Wednesday afternoon.
The 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:20 p.m. nine miles east northeast of Cherokee, or about 98 miles north northwest of the Oklahoma City metro, at a depth of about five and a half miles.
There have not been any reports of damage or injuries associated with this quake.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at magnitudes of 4.0 and higher.
