Cooler Temps, Winter Precipitation On The Way To Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

The quick Spring temperature fling has almost run its course. Temperatures are heading back down and precipitation chances are going up.

On Wednesday, highs will be closer to normal in OKC and much colder to the northwest. Winds will again be strong out of the northeast at 12 to 24 mph. Our next storm system will begin to make itself known Wednesday afternoon, mainly in western Oklahoma.

Precipitation will fall as snow in the panhandle, a mix in far northwest Oklahoma, and mainly rain in western Oklahoma.

By Wednesday evening, precipitation will spread through the rest of the state, mainly as a cold rain. Most of the wintry mix will stay in west and northwest Oklahoma. By Wednesday night, as the temperatures drop, the rain may mix with some snow through central Oklahoma along I-44.

Western and northwestern Oklahoma is seeing all snow at this point.

Thursday morning, the system begins to move out with light precipitation continuing through central Oklahoma.

After it's all said and done, snow accumulations will likely stay west of Oklahoma City. Surface temps will be too warm. However, out west, snow could reach 3” to 5" along the state line. Big time snow is expected in the central and western panhandle.

Temps will warm up back into the 60s this weekend.
