Sentinel Public Schools will be open on Friday and that has many parents worried after a bizarre chain of events on Thursday morning.

Mayor Sam Dlugonski said law enforcement sources told him a man named Dallas Horton called 911 claiming he was going to detonate a bomb at a nearby school. The mayor said Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross and Washita County Sheriff's deputies traced the call to Horton's home.

Chief Louis was wearing a bullet-proof vest and escaped serious injuries.

Mayor Dlugonski told News 9 that Horton shot Chief Ross twice in the chest when he attempted to enter the home.

OSBI has not confirmed Horton shot the police chief, but they did say the man who shot him was not charged because it's possible he thought the officers were intruders.

Classes will be open on Friday, but the Superintendent said if parents do not want to bring their kids, it will be an excused absence.

They do ask that you call and let them know if you decide to keep your kids home.
