The victory-securing play for the OSU Cowboys in last Friday's Cactus Bowl provided fireworks.

The collision between a Washington Huskies defender and the Cowboys' James Castleman, weighing in at 300 lbs., appeared to show sparks.

It was actually paint that chipped off from the Cowboy's chrome painted helmet.

“Everybody thinks it's cool. But as an equipment guy, that's not what you wanted,” said Matt Davis, OSU's Director of Football Equipment Operations.

Davis said he doesn't just oversea the equipment, he also helps put together all the uniform combinations for the team.

“Flashy, blingy, whatever word you use,” said Davis about his motivation.

Davis said each Cowboy football player gets four helmets that are painted before the season begins.

Davis and his crew said they decide what decal goes on them.

“Oh, I got a few emails on the bucking cowboy logo,” said Davis. The decal used during homecoming weekend wasn't received as well as the other looks, Davis added.

“Right now is when we sit down and talk about what we are going to do for the next year,” said Davis.

He said fans can expect a new uniform next season.
