The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has named the trooper and suspect involved in a shooting in downtown Guthrie, Sunday night.

Trooper Caleb Swickey is on routine paid administrative leave while investigators review the circumstances surrounding him discharging his weapon.

According to OHP, 18-year-old Kenneth Brown was pulled over for a routine traffic stop near Harrison Ave. and Broad St. around 9:30 p.m. Capt. Paul Timmons said the reason for the traffic stop is unclear at this time. During the traffic stop, Brown allegedly got into an altercation with Swickey.

"The subject was armed with a weapon and the trooper was able to defend himself by firing at the suspect." said Timmons.

The details of the altercation, the number of times the trooper fired his weapon, and what injuries the suspect sustained have not been released.

Meanwhile, court records show Brown was pulled over by OHP in November 2014 for a traffic violation. It does not appear he has a criminal record in Oklahoma outside of a few minor traffic stops.

OHP says it will conduct a full investigation into the matter. Although, they are not able to release much information right now, they are asking the public to not to jump to conclusions.

"Just be patient, you know these things take time," Timmons said. “We just want to make sure we get all the answers to all the questions."

At last check, Brown is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
