While Baylor was honoring its first national championship team, coach Kim Mulkey just wanted to get into the locker room to fix her current team's problems.

Mulkey had to wait a few extra minutes to talk to the current edition of Lady Bears as she was introduced along with the 2005 team that won the school's first title.

"At halftime when you're down six, you got to get in there," Mulkey said. "You've got to make some adjustments. I've got to decide what I need to do coming out in the second half."

Whatever Mulkey said to her current team in their abbreviated meeting, it worked. The sixth-ranked Bears held No. 18 Oklahoma State to 12 second-half points and went on to a 61-45 win in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Nina Davis had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Baylor. Khadijiah Cave added 15 points and Kristy Wallace had 11 for Baylor (12-1, 1-0 Big 12), which used a 31-6 run in the second half to take control after trailing 33-27 at the break.

The Lady Bears tied the game at 43 with a 3-point play by Cave with 11:53 left in the game. From there, Oklahoma State had a scoring drought of 8:21 and Baylor took a 58-43 lead with 4:02 remaining. Davis scored eight during the stretch. The Cowgirls made just one of their final 20 field goal attempts and scored two points - on Liz Donohoe's jumper with 3:45 - left in the final 12:20.

Donohoe scored 13 and LaShawn Jones had 11 points and nine rebounds for No. 18 Oklahoma State (10-2, 0-1).

"The more we started missing, I thought it affected us down on the defensive end," Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. "I don't care what anybody says. If you start missing shots, it affects you down on the defensive end. That's what happened as well."

The Cowgirls shot 45 percent (13-of-29) in the first half, but just 20 percent (6-of-30) in the second.

Baylor missed its first five shots of the game and Oklahoma State opened on an 11-2 run. The Lady Bears tied the game at 19 when Johnson stripped Brittney Martin of the ball under the Oklahoma State basket. Johnson then led a fast break and passed to Wallace in the corner who hit a 3 with 11:03 on the clock.

Oklahoma State closed the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 33-27 lead at the break. Baylor missed its final seven shots and did not score in the final 5:22. The Lady Bears didn't score their first points of the second half until Alexis Prince hit a jumper in the lane with 17:05 left in the second half. Baylor missed its first two shots of the period, and Davis missed four free throws.

Baylor trailed 37-27 before an 8-0 run that began with Prince's basket. Cave had an offensive rebound and putback followed by a layup in a streak that pulled Baylor to within 39-37 with 13:55 left.
