Police reported the number of murders in Oklahoma City have been on the decline in the last few years. Officers said there's no one reason why they've seen a drop in murders, but this past year marked the lowest they've seen since 2011.

When it comes to homicides reported in OKC, police said 2012 was the deadliest year in recent history.

It was three years ago when the body of murdered Blanchard mother Jaymie Adams was found near Lake Stanley Draper. Then, later in 2012, a 57-year-old nurse was killed inside her Northwest Oklahoma City home.

So there were 99 murders for 2012.

But in the last two years, those numbers have changed dramatically.

"Over the last couple of years starting at 2012, and then going to 2014, there has been a decrease each year," said Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

In 2013, police reported 76 murders. That year rang in with police finding a mother of three stabbed to death right in front of her S.W. 63rd Street home. Then, a 7-year-old boy died in a house fire after a couple burglarized his home.

And 2014, had the lowest homicide numbers Oklahoma City police had seen in three years with 62 murders.

They included the murder of Erin Glasson, who police said was shot and killed by her accused husband Kinney Glasson last November. Just over a week later, police said another husband shot and killed his wife inside their Southwest Oklahoma City home.

The decrease in murders is a trend police said they hope will continue

"Obviously, we're very happy that the numbers were down especially this past year, but again, it's something that's impossible to predict,” Sgt. Wardlow said.

“We've already had one so far this year, we had one yesterday, so where the numbers will end up for 2015, we're not sure."
