A metro man accused of threatening to kill Oklahoma City police officers will now have to face a judge for his actions.

Bradley Allen Rodriguez, 18, was arrested and booked in for conspiracy to commit terrorism after a confidential informant tipped off police. According to court records, Rodriguez has ties to a well-known local gang. And he had no problem sharing his hatred for police, both in person, and online.

It was a tip from a confidential informant over the weekend that led to Rodriguez's arrest. That informant told police that Rodriguez and another man were heard talking outside a taco stand near SW 44th and May Ave.

Court papers state the two had been talking about the murdered police officers in New York City and how the outpouring of support was unwarranted - and that their answer to that should be leaving the taco stand and murdering the first police officer they could find. It was a threat that alarmed the informant as well as police.

“You simply can't do that,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“There's laws against that. Even if you don't carry out your threat, just the fact that you are making a threat against a group of people or population of people, that's a crime. Regardless of what group it is. We take it very seriously.”

Police also looked over Rodriguez's Facebook and Twitter pages which revealed several references to the murder of police officers, including a 12/19/2014 post about the New York Police officers shot in their vehicle.

On Tuesday, a study by the Nonprofit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was released stating the number of officers shot and killed in the line of duty this year had actually increased by more than 50 percent. But Oklahoma City police officials say it does not appear to be keeping officers from joining the force.

“They know that there's risk involved with that job,” said Knight. “That's always been the case.”

Just this past January, Oklahoma City police officer Jimmy Cortez was shot in the leg during a shootout near Hefner and Western, but lived. And other officers have faced similar life-threatening situations, all in the line of duty.

News 9 checked the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund website, and out of the three Oklahoma officers killed statewide this year, none of them were involved in shootings.

One died of a heart attack while on duty. The others were involved in car wrecks.
