Donating hair to "Locks of Love" is not uncommon, but how about a 12-year-old Edmond girl, who's chopped off her locks four times for charity?

McKenna McPhail is known for long, sandy brown hair. And for the last two years, she has not gotten it cut.

"I think a lot of people are going to be shocked,” McPhail said.

Hair that was once down her waist is now down on the floor.

“Since my hair was so long, I really couldn't brush the back of my hair, so I always had to get my mom or a classmate to do it for me.”

McPhail says she's had the longest hair at Deer Creek Middle School, where she's in the seventh grade.

Scissors haven't touched her head in two years until a trip to Edmond's Cottonwood Salon Spa changed that.

Her long locks were chopped off, piece by piece, turning her lengthy tresses to basically a bob.

"I mean, I might miss the color a little bit because the bottom of my hair is kind of sun bleached, and I like the color."

But McPhail likes the cause even more since she is giving all her cut hair to "Locks of Love."

"I've done Locks of Love for a couple years now, and it just kind of makes me happy to think that like that somebody out there who's not able to have hair is wearing my hair even though that sounds awkward."

One reason McPhail does it is for her grandmother Jeanette McFadden who died from melanoma. Knowing that a haircut can be used by patients battling cancer and other diseases is why McKenna thinks she'll always do it.

"It only takes about a year for it to grow back for me so probably yea.”

McPhail was also just one of five people at the salon getting their hair cut the day after Christmas for "Locks of Love."

The Cottonwood Salon Spa offers free haircuts for "Locks of Love."
