An accident last week left a police officer in a medically induced coma, but an update to this tragedy will melt your heart.

It involves that officer's five-year-old son.

Although the officer won't be home for Christmas, his son got a very special surprise.

You could hear them from a mile away. Santa wasn't in his sleigh, but he was giving one little boy his biggest Christmas wish.

"A power wheel. A police one. I like polices a lot,” five-year-old Archer said.

Archer got the biggest power wheel Oklahoma County has, and he got his dad who is a MCloud Police officer.

Archer's father, Alan Smith, has been in a medically induced coma after an accident between his patrol car and a garbage truck. While he's being taken care of in the hospital, others in law enforcement wanted to make sure his son Archer was taken care of, too.

"I wanted to do it in a way that it would overshadow the fact that his dad was in a hospital,” organizer Wes Elliott said. “So 10 years down the road when somebody asks him, ‘Remember when your dad was in the hospital?' I want him to say, ‘No, but I remember when Santa came to my house with the police.'"

The event was a complete surprise.

"He had no idea. We kept it a secret. We walked outside and said, ‘Do you hear that and heard all of the sirens?'" his mother Erica Smith said. "All of this. This is just breathtaking. It gives me chills and I shake. It's amazing to see such support for Archer, his dad and all of us. I think his dad would be very, very proud and happy to see that Archer had a really special Christmas."

As of Tuesday Alan Smith is no longer in a coma, and even though he won't be home for Christmas, Santa stepped in to take his place.

"I thought it was really good for Santa to come and see me and give me presents,” Archer said.

There is a fund set up for Alan Smith to help pay for his medical expenses.

Here's how you can help.
