Cowboys Add Six Mid-Year Enrollees

Oklahoma State football signed five junior college athletes and one transfer from UAB for the spring semester.

Oklahoma State football signed five junior college athletes and one transfer for the spring semester, coach Mike Gundy announced today.

“We're very pleased with the maturity and experience that this group brings to our football team,” Gundy said. “We're looking forward to these guys joining us in January for off-season workouts and competing in spring football.”

The Cowboys' signees include athlete Todd Mays and offensive linemen Brandon Pertile, Matt Kellerman and Victor Salako on the offensive side of the ball, as well as defensive tackle Motekiai Maile and linebacker Jordan Burton.

Salako is a transfer from UAB, who becomes immediately eligible due to UAB dropping its football program, and the rest of the group is made up of junior college players.

Biographical information for each signee is listed below:

Jordan Burton – DB – 6-3 – 208 – Longview, Texas (Longview/Stephen F. Austin/Kilgore College)

Played for coach J.J. Eckert at Kilgore … Named first team on the 2014 All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference … Led Kilgore and finished eighth in the NJCAA last season in total tackles with 108 … His 10.8 tackles per game also ranked eighth nationally … Added three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, three fumbles recovered and four pass break ups … Recorded at least 10 tackles in seven of his 10 games played, including highs of 17 vs. Tyler Junior College and 15 vs. Trinity Valley CC and Cisco College … Played at Stephen F. Austin in 2012 and 2013 … Played in 11 games in 2013, ranking fourth on the team in tackles with 74, including 36 solo and 3.5 tackles for loss ... Recorded a season-best 20 stops against Prairie View A&M with nine solo and 1.5 for loss ... Posted 13 tackles against Nicholls State with a pass breakup ... Tallied 11 stops with an interception in an upset victory over Montana State ... Played in three games before redshirting in 2012, recording a season-high three tackles against Southwestern Oklahoma ... Also had stops at SMU and Montana State … Played high school football for coach John King at Longview HS in Longview, Texas … As a senior at Longview, he totaled 106 tackles, three tackles for loss and four pass break ups while playing linebacker … A standout punt returner as a senior, averaging 12.0 yards on 17 returns with one touchdown ... A first-team selection on the 2011 All-District 11-5A team and a second-team selection in 2010 … Played safety as a junior, totaling 110 tackles, an interception and forced two fumbles … Had 28 stops during Longview's run to the 2009 state title game.

Matt Kellerman – OL – 6-5 – 295 – Centerville, Kan. (Prairie View/Butler County C.C.)

Played for coach Troy Morrell at Butler County C.C. in 2013 and 2014 … An honorable mention at tackle for the 2014 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference Football Team … Played for coach Doug Whitcraft at Prairie View High School … First-team selection at offensive line and defensive line for both the Pioneer League and Tri-County Spotlight as a senior … Also an all-state honorable mention at both positions.

Motekiai Maile – DT – 6-4 – 305 – Euless, Texas (Trinity/Pittsburg HS/Tyler J.C.)

Played for coach Danny Palmer at Tyler J.C. … Led Tyler as a sophomore with 10 tackles for loss and was fourth on the squad with 54 tackles … Also credited with three sacks and two pass break ups … First team selection on the 2014 All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference Team … In 2013, he accounted for 30 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble … Started his high school career at Trinity HS in Euless, Texas before transferring to Pittsburg HS in Pittsburg, Calif., for his junior and senior seasons … Played both defensive line and tight end in high school.

Todd Mays – ATH – 6-0 – 200 – Olive Branch, Miss. (Olive Branch/East Mississippi C.C.)

Played for coach Buddy Stephens at East Mississippi Community College ... Spent two years at EMCC, where he helped the Lions to two-consecutive 12-0 seasons and back-to-back NJCAA Football Championships ... Starred at multiple spots for the Lions, as he made significant contributions at quarterback, running back and wide receiver ... Averaged 5.8 yards per carry last season while running for seven touchdowns, a mark that ranked fourth in the conference ... Completed 93.8 percent of his passes in 2014, finishing 15-16 with one score ... Also tallied 17 catches last season, finishing with 200 yards and two touchdowns ... Scored at multiple positions on four separate occasions, including a three-touchdown performance (two rushing, one passing) against Coahoma C.C. in 2013 ... Reached the end zone 18 times his freshman season ... His 15 rushing touchdowns in 2013 ranked fifth in the nation ... Ran for a score in the Lions' national championship victory over Georgia Military College ... Also spent one season at Arkansas State, but did not see any game action ... Played high school football for coach Scott Samsel at Olive Branch HS in Olive Branch, Miss. ... As a senior at Olive Branch, he threw for 3,116 yards and 28 touchdowns while adding 1,304 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground ... Led Olive Branch to an undefeated 15-0 record and a state championship in 2011 ... Named first team Class 6A All-State and MHSAA All-Region 1 Most Valuable Offensive Player ... Was also selected to the 2011 Mississippi/Alabama All-Star roster.

Brandon Pertile – OL – 6-6 – 300 – Clearwater, Fla. (Countryside/Georgia State/Mesa C.C.)

Spent last season at Mesa Community College, but was sidelined due to injury ... Played the previous year at Georgia State, where he started in four games as a true freshman ... Played high school football for coach Jared Davis at Countryside HS in Clearwater, Fla. ... Contributed to an offensive line that paved the way for almost 200 rushing yards per game ... Selected to compete in the Pinellas County Senior All-Star Game and was honored as the game's Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.

Victor Salako – OL – 6-6 – 315 – Huntsville, Ala. (Grissom/UAB)

Spent 2012-2014 at UAB … Started all 12 games at left tackle in 2014 … Has been a key component of the UAB offense, leading the offensive line … Helped the team average more than 200 yards rushing per game and score 27 total rushing touchdowns in 2014 … Saw action in all 12 contests and started 11 as a redshirt freshman in 2013 ... Member of Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll … Redshirted in 2012 … Attended Grissom High School in Huntsville, Ala. ... Played defensive line sophomore and junior year, and offensive line as a senior ... 2011 Second Team All-City selection on offense ... Recorded 11 pancake blocks and did not allow a sack his senior year ... Voted team's best offensive lineman as a senior ... Named team's best defensive lineman his sophomore and junior years ... Had 58 tackles, including 26 solo tackles his junior year, adding four sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries ... Made the A/B honor roll all four years.
