Oklahoma State Health Department Reports Two Flu-Related Deaths

New influenza statistics released Thursday by the Oklahoma State Department of Health show 94 people have been hospitalized and two people have died in Oklahoma since reporting for the current flu season began this fall.

According to the OSDH, the two flu-related deaths occurred in Carter and Oklahoma counties.

OSDH began compiling statistics for the current flu season on September 28, 2014.

Health officials continue to emphasize the single best way to protect yourself against flu and its consequences is to get the flu vaccine. They say it is not too late and many county health departments, as well as pharmacies and health care providers, still have the vaccine

The OSDH says Oklahoma County has seen 14 hospitalizations and Tulsa County reports 12 flu cases so far this season. The state health department says Carter County has had 11 flu cases, while Garfield County has seen 9 cases and Adair County with 7 hospitalizations.

Cleveland County reports 6 cases so far this flu season. Followed by five cases in Stephens County, four flu cases in Payne County and three flu cases in Cherokee County. 

A number of counties have recorded two cases of the flu. The list includes Bryan, Custer, Greer, Jackson, Love and McClain counties. 

The list of counties with one flu case each include Atoka, Blaine, Comanche, Creek, Jefferson, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, Marshall, Mayes and Pottawatomie.
