MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma - Authorities are investigating after an Oklahoma City man was shot and killed while he was driving in Midwest City, Monday night.

According to Midwest City police, at about 8:50 p.m., the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office received a call of “shots fired” in the area of N.E. 23rd and Hughson, a small unincorporated area.

A few moments later, Oklahoma City police said they got a call of a possible accident west of Sooner Road on N.E. 23rd. When Oklahoma City police officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Robert Pennington dead in the driver's seat of a vehicle. He had an apparent gunshot wound.

Police said another person was in the front passenger seat of Pennington's car, but he was not injured.

Based on evidence, authorities determined that the shooting occurred in Midwest City. They believe Pennington was killed while driving westbound on N.E. 23rd in the 6700 block.

“We have developed information that a gray, newer model vehicle, drove up next to Mr. Pennington's car while they were both traveling westbound on N.E. 23rd. At that point, shots were fired and Mr. Pennington sustained fatal injuries,” Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.
