Thursday afternoon, the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI investigate an officer-involved shooting near Grant.

The incident began with a foot pursuit of a subject by numerous law enforcement agencies.

That pursuit ended in the parking lot of the Choctaw Nation Casino and Resort located at 1516 U.S. Highway 271 when the man exited a pickup truck he had stolen and then raised a rifle at officers.

William Lee Honea, 33, of Texas, was shot multiple times. Two Hugo officers and two Choctaw County sheriff's deputies fired their weapons. Honea was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

OSBI agents spent much of the day Thursday at the scene gathering information and evidence.

Friday, agents will continue conducting interviews. Once the investigation is complete, agents will provide the district attorney with the facts of the case. The district attorney will determine if the shooting was justified.
