OU Students Host Moment Of Silence For Events In Ferguson, MO

About 100 students gathered early Tuesday morning in Norman after the grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri, decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The event was organized by the University of Oklahoma's Black Student Association and held around 12:30 a.m. at the Union Food Court. Unlike the reaction in Ferguson, this was peaceful. No incidents of violence took place.

Organizers gathered for songs and prayers for the people of Ferguson and the family of Michael Brown. Some students said what happened in Ferguson could happen anywhere.

"What's happening in Ferguson is affecting us here on campus,"said Feyisayo Omifade of the Black Student Association. "It's a ripple effect. And I have a feeling it's something that we experience here on campus and we're just hoping through this medium we have tonight, we can bring awareness to something that can only happen in Ferguson but can also something that can happen here within our own walls here."

Aubriana Busby also told us while she doesn't agree with the violent response of some people in Ferguson, she said when anger is fueling anyone's emotions, whether you're a citizen, police officer, or leader, no one can make good decisions.
