Police have identified the woman shot and killed in Northwest Oklahoma City on Friday as Carrie A. Ezell, 37, of Meeker. And they have arrested Charles Chambers, 26, for her murder.

A neighborhood meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday night at the 10th Street Baptist Church, where neighbors plan to meet with police about the deadly shooting and the recent increase in crime in the Briarwood Estates.

This deadly shooting has not only rattled the neighbors here, but those who knew the victim well in her hometown of Meeker.

“She was my friend,” said Gary Lee, who told News he has Ezell since she was a little girl. He said he also recently offered her a place to live on his property in Meeker.

“If she was your friend, she'd do anything for you,” said Lee. “She's very intelligent, computer savvy, everything. I mean this girl was smart.”

But Lee and his daughter are now heartbroken that Ezell, who had so much potential, ended up incarcerated several times on numerous charges, all because of her addiction to drugs.

“You know she had good in her,” said Lee. “And I don't feel like she deserved what she got.”

Lee says he has no idea what Ezell was doing in front of this abandoned Northwest OKC house near Melrose and Sweetgum Ave. before she was shot. And they don't know anything about Charles Chambers, the man accused of pulling the trigger.

“There's bad people in this world, we all know that,” said Lee. “I hope this guy gets punished. I don't wish harm on nobody, but when you do stuff like that they got to put you somewhere.”

Court papers obtained Monday afternoon stated that a witness saw Ezell inside her car with Chambers along with another man and woman and that Chambers and Ezell got into an argument before Chamber's took her keys.

Those court papers stated when Ezell tried to get the keys back, she was shot multiple times.

Ezell leaves behind a brother, sister, and three children.
