Five People Killed In Nowata County Crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported five people died in a crash in Nowata County Saturday about four miles south of Nowata on US 169.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported five people died in a crash in Nowata County Saturday about four miles south of Nowata on US 169. 

Just before 2 p.m., authorities said 35-year-old Micah Walker was headed northbound in a Chevrolet Malibu on US 169 and crossed over the center line to hit a Kia Soul, headed southbound on US 169. The vehicle hit by Walker went off the roadway and rolled on its side. 

The driver of Kia was 59-year-old Nowata resident Kevin Smith. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to OHP. 

Three people were in the Kia with Smith. Maria Smith, 49, was also pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old male passenger died on the way to the hospital. And the third passenger, a 14-year-old male, is in critical condition at a Tulsa hospital. 

Authorities said Walker and the his only passenger, Tulsa resident Calvin Wyckoff, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The cause of the collision is under investigation, according to OHP.
