Some of life's most valuable lessons do not come from sitting in a classroom. One metro daycare took that notion to heart Friday.

They may be young, but the kids were already learning how an act of kindness can open doors.

The baskets were as big as they were tall, but don't tell these four years old that. They cleared a few obstacles in getting to the store.

“Our pre-k students were encouraged to help around the house, do chores, help make the bed, help cook dinner, just get involved and they earned money,” said teacher Kim Waterman.

Their hard-earned money went toward buying groceries.

But it was more than a lesson about the value of a dollar, Primrose School taught the preschoolers about giving.

With each child armed with a sack of groceries, they hand-picked and paid for the four-year-olds made one last stop at the Regional Food Bank of Central Oklahoma to see for themselves how the donations added up.
