Troopers, deputies and police will be out on the roads in extra numbers to crack down on drunk drivers in Oklahoma County this weekend.

They have all teamed up for the same project that lasts 12 straight hours.

It starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and runs to 3 a.m. on Saturday.

OHP Trooper Chris Liles will be on the roads this weekend for DUI enforcement.

He and other troopers will be looking for whatever violation they can find like weaving in and out of lanes, speeding and braking late.

If they pull you over and you are under the influence, they will find out.

“We arrest quite a few people that are impaired on prescription drugs, as well as alcohol,” Trooper Liles explained.

OHP teamed up with Oklahoma City police, Nicoma Park police, Bethany police, Midwest City police and the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office for the patrol operation.

It is called 'Operation StanDOff' for the partnership between state troopers, deputies and officers.

“I would say the Thanksgiving holiday is a pretty big day for DUI enforcement, and especially the day before Thanksgiving,” Trooper Liles added.

For OHP, this county-wide operation started at the same time as its state-wide 'ENDUI' enforcement campaign.

In 2013, OHP worked 3,824 alcohol related crashes in the state, resulting in 189 people killed and 2,500 injuries.

“Most people just say, ‘I'm just trying to get home, can't you just follow me home,' and we have to explain to them, ‘Well, then I would just witness a crash that you caused – it doesn't work like that,'” Trooper Liles told News 9.

On top of the law enforcement patrols, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office will also set up four DUI checkpoints throughout the county.

The first DUI checkpoints will start Friday at 8 p.m.
