Muskogee Police say a 12-year-old child is dead in a case of possible child neglect. The boy, who was 3-foot-7 and dependent on a feeding tube, weighed only 37 pounds when he was found, according to authorities.

"Initial indications show that the child had prior medical issues but was found to be malnourished and living in poor conditions," said Corporal Michael Mahan, Muskogee Police Department public information officer.

Police and Muskogee County EMS were called to a home on the west side of town Thursday evening. Investigators say the home had animal feces and dirty diapers inside.

The investigation is ongoing, but police are working to determine if the boy had been getting the proper medications. Mahan said the child had been left with a grandmother who also had health issues.

The child was found dead in the 2800 block of Denver on Thursday, November 20, police say. The boy had ongoing health issues since he was born, according to police.

The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death. Information is being submitted to the district attorney to see if charges will be filed.
