A Norman High School student-led group is gearing up for what it says will be a "peaceful walk out and protest."

The group says the district did not take appropriate action regarding rape and bullying allegations involving students. Norman High School principal Scott Beck sent a letter to parents Wednesday morning to make them aware of a protest at the school Monday.

“We ask that students walk out in silence and stand with us throughout the school day in honor of the victims,” said NHS sophomore, Danielle Brown.

Brown, only a sophomore at Norman High School, has decided to step out in front to speak up for her three friends.

“They're struggling. They're having a really tough time,” said Brown.

She created the Facebook group, "YES ALL DAUGHTERS," in an effort to raise awareness of bullying and sexual harassment in school. Brown says her friends were raped by a male classmate.

“It could have been anyone,” said Brown. “It could have been me.”

“We don't feel that it was handled correctly. These girls are not in school. They want to be in school and they have been bullied out,” said Brown's mother, Kim Wright.

In the letter sent by the principal, he tells parents, "NHS took the strongest disciplinary action against the alleged assailant permitted by Oklahoma law."

“Which is suspension for the rest of the year,” said Norman Public Schools spokesperson, Shelly Hickman.

Hickman says the district is fully cooperating with police during the investigation.

“I'm very, very confident that we have followed our protocol and our policies and procedures to a T,” said Hickman.

Federal law prevents the district from sharing information regarding specific allegations.

“We want to see a spotlight put on the bullying issues, specifically here at Norman High, and also address the problem of victim blaming in our culture,” said Brown's aunt, Stacey Wright.

“It's always been a problem, but I've never heard of something this mean,” said Brown.

The "silent" protest is expected to happen Monday morning at 9 a.m. in front of Norman High School.
