The Broken Arrow Police Department say a man shot through the front door of a home Wednesday morning hitting a dog inside.

Officers said a homeowner in the 3800 block of South Sycamore heard a knock at the door at about 8:30 Wednesday morning. He refused to open the door because he didn't know who was knocking, police said. The man outside fired through the lower part of the door striking the homeowner's dog who was standing next to his owner.

Officers said the dog was hit in the paw. The owner took the dog to a veterinarian and police said it is expected to recover.

Police Corporal Leon Calhoun said the shooter was described as a black man in mid-40s wearing a green coat and black ball cap.
